This presentation will introduce the audience to basic areas of functioning that may be relevant to diagnostic evaluations for Autism Spectrum Disorder. We'll discuss some specific measures but will be more principle focused. Methods vary by developmental stage and co-occurring or differential diagnoses will be discussed.

Workshop Objectives
Based on the content of this workshop, attendees will be able to:

  • Discuss the basic areas of functioning that may be assessed in a clinical diagnostic evaluation for ASD.
  • Recognize research-supported ASD diagnostic procedures and how these may change across the lifespan.
  • Reflect on common themes in co-occurring and differential diagnosis related to ASD.

About the Presenters

Dr. Myra Bundy is a Professor of Psychology at Eastern Kentucky University and the coordinator of EKU's concentration in Applied Behavior Analysis. She is a Licensed Psychologist and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and is a consulting faculty member on the Kentucky Leadership in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) program. She enjoys spending time with and learning from people on the autism spectrum and their families.

Dr. Grace Kuravackel completed her M.A. at Bangladore University and her Ph.D. at the University of Louisville. She is a licensed psychologist and the Clinical Director of the Norton Children's Autism Center at the U of L School of Medicine. Along with her expertise in clinical assessment in autism, Dr. Kuravackel has research lines relating to both assessment and treatment in ASD.

The presentation is intended for mental health, health, and public health professionals and students, as well as for professionals in related fields and for consumers, family members, and advocates interested in influencing public policy. The information gained is applicable across settings, as advocacy is a useful tool to understand and master, regardless of the specific focus of personal and professional activities and interests.
